Hotel Baker wedding photographer Joe Nowak captures cinematic, relaxed wedding photography at one of St. Charles’ most historic and visually rich riverfront venues. Sitting directly on the Fox River, Hotel Baker blends old-world architecture, intimate indoor spaces, and rare reception features that make it one of the most unique wedding locations in the Fox Valley.
The Fox River terrace and garden walkway is one of the most important portrait locations at the venue, offering soft, reflective water light, quiet movement along the river, and naturally cinematic golden-hour conditions. This space allows couples to step away from the reception and create some of the most emotional, unposed portraits of the entire day without ever leaving the property.
Inside, the Rainbow Room provides a refined, historic ceremony and portrait setting defined by classic architectural detailing, warm ambient lighting, and a naturally intimate atmosphere. It works especially well for documentary-style coverage where emotion, closeness, and subtle light play a major role in storytelling.
One of the most distinctive features of Hotel Baker is its light-up dance floor, a rare reception element that transforms the space during evening celebrations. As the only venue in the Fox Valley with this type of built-in illuminated floor, it creates dynamic, high-energy reception imagery and is one of only a few comparable installations in the entire Midwest. Outside of St. Charles, similar historic installations are primarily found in a handful of landmark Chicago venues such as the former Knickerbocker Hotel (Playboy Club era ballroom), making Hotel Baker part of a very small group of venues in the region offering this type of visual reception experience.
Joe uses the full flow of Hotel Baker — from riverside portraits, to the historic Rainbow Room, to the illuminated dance floor — to create cinematic wedding photography that feels natural, emotional, and deeply tied to the character of the venue. His approach focuses on real moments, natural light transitions, and the rhythm of the wedding day as it moves through each distinct space.
